Pick Your Pace resources available for transition to QPP

AAFP

The Quality Payment Program (QPP) is a part of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), which replaces Medicare’s traditional fee-for-service program.

QPP is the umbrella term for the two payment tracks—Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (AAPM’s). Most AAFP members will initially participate in MIPS.

Participation in 2017 will impact Medicare payments when QPP payment adjustments take effect in 2019. That’s why CMS deemed 2017 a transition year, allowing physicians to “Pick Your Pace." Remember, if you engage in the QPP program at any level during the 2017 performance period, you will not receive a negative payment adjustment in 2019.

The AAFP has resources to help you take action, including:

  • QPP handout —provides an overview of QPP and the paths they can take to avoid a payment penalty.
  • Pick Your Pace resources—participation requirements and a time line for 2017, as well as practice scenarios for each participation option.
  • QPP technical assistance—CMS has several programs available to help transition and successfully participate in one of the two payment programs.
