Great news for your patients!  The FY 2019 legislative budget recently signed into law by Governor Jeff Colyer includes authority for expenditures up to $350,000 for expansion of the tobacco cessation benefits in KanCare. Individuals covered by KanCare are now eligible to receive up to four rounds of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) each year with no lifetime caps as well as ongoing cessation counseling services. This legislation replaces the previous limitation of one quit attempt per year and the limitation on counseling to pregnant women. This means that all individuals who are covered by KanCare and want help in quitting tobacco now have access to both NRT and counseling services, which together are considered best practice for increasing the chances of long-term recovery from tobacco use.  The policy change is effective July 1, 2018. Please share this information with office staff and patients!

AAFP

The AAFP is recruiting 10 family physicians for the Adolescent Immunization Best Practices Summit. If you meet the criteria, KAFP urges you to apply. Applications due by June 22, 2018.  The summit focus will be on immunizations for adolescent’s 11-18 years of age and how family physicians utilize evidence-based interventions and system changes to improve immunization rates among that age cohort. Each participant will present their best practices and lessons learned at the Adolescent Immunization Best Practices Summit. The emphasis of the summit is to have physicians summarize how their practice increased adolescent immunization through the operation of a quality improvement program or project. This will also include implementation of a team-based approach and sustainability plan within the practice.

For more information about eligibility, requirements, recognition and compensation, visit Adolescent Immunization Best Practices Summit. Questions? Contact Pamela Carter-Smith by email or phone (800)274-2237 ext. 3162.

In this PRIME Registry demo, attendees will learn how practice EHR data are turned into actionable clinical quality measures through the PRIME Registry on-boarding process, and how automated reporting reduces and streamlines effort for a wide variety of reporting and performance improvement needs. Attendees will also view a demonstration of the PRIME Registry dashboard and see how to target opportunities for improvement at the patient, clinician, and practice level (and across multiple sites of a single practice). This interactive webinar is led by PRIME Registry Recruiting Coordinator Alison Morris and the PRIME Registry technical team. Those interested will only need to attend one of the webinars.

Want to improve population health and understand how social determinants affect your patients? Join the PRIME SAN team for an exciting webinar to introduce you to the Population Health Assessment Engine (PHATE). Developed collaboratively by the American Board of Family Medicine and the University of Missouri, PHATE allows users to view the communities they are serving, community data, community partners, and disease and (poor) quality hot spots. To help you train others to use PHATE, the Robert Graham Center and HealthLandscape have developed educational materials that teach clinicians, administrators, and learners how to incorporate PHATE and population health concepts into practice. This webinar is free of charge. For questions about this webinar, please contact Dr. Winston Liaw.
