Kansas Family Physician of the Year

The Kansas Family Physician of the Year is selected each year from among Kansas physician members in good standing who are directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities that enhance the quality of life of the community. The Kansas Family Physician of the Year is an established recognition program of the KAFP that has been conducted annually since 1990.

Selection criteria:

  • Provides his/her patients with compassionate, comprehensive, and caring family medicine on a continuing basis.
  • Enhances the quality of his/her community by being directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities.
  • Acts as a credible role model professionally and personally to his/her community, to other health professionals, and residents and medical students.
  • Stands out among his/her colleagues.

Nominations may come from patients, colleagues, or members of the community.  The KAFP Communications Committee reviews all applications and selects award winners each year.  Awards are presented during the President’s Dinner at the Annual Meeting.

Nominee requirements:

KAFP staff will reach out to each Kansas Family Physician of the Year nominee to collect the following requirements to complete their nomination:

  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Photo (digital format preferred)
  • Personal Statement “What being a family physician means to me.” Recommended length 250-750 words.

Optional: Letters of support.  KAFP recommends a total of 6 support letters (2 patients; 2 community leaders and 2 colleagues). Please note this is a recommendation, not a requirement.
