To support and serve family physicians of Kansas 

as they advance the health of Kansas.

The Academy meets this mission through:

High Quality Education
  • KAFP provides excellent Continuing Medical Education (CME) at its meetings, conferences and  virtual events.
  • Additional CME opportunities are offered throughout the year with Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) Group Learning Sessions and webinars.
Outstanding Advocacy
  • KAFP is the voice of family medicine in Topeka; advocating effectively for family physicians and their patients, with legislative priorities adopted by the Board of Directors.
  • The Governmental Advocacy Commit­tee stays ahead of legislative issues and works with Kansas family physicians to address them.

Beyond education and advocacy

Leadership in Public Health
  • Tobacco
    • KAFP is deeply involved in tobacco-related coalitions across Kansas at both the state and local levels.
    • KAFP is the Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) grantee for Sedgwick County. Through the grant, KAFP employs two full-time tobacco control coordinators on staff.
  • Immunization
    • KAFP is a charter member of the Immunize Kansas Coalition.
    • KAFP works closely with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Immunization Program and other organizations to improve the rate of timely immunizations for Kansans.
  • Workforce
    • KAFP works with lawmakers, University of Kansas School of Medicine, and community leaders to increase the number of students who select family medicine as their specialty of choice.
Communications and Recognition
    • KAFP is an email newsletter sent every other Wednesday that features timely updates on family medicine news and resources.
  • Awards
    • KAFP shines a spotlight on the outstanding work of members through awards for practicing family physicians, residents and students.
      • Family Physicians: The Kansas Family Physician of the Year, Rising Star, Exemplary Teaching and Humanitarian awards recognize outstanding family doctors in Kansas.
      • Residents & Students: The KAFP Foundation is committed to recognizing Kansas medical students and residents and provides awards designed specifically to recognize these audiences and shining stars in our state.
