Student Leader in Family Medicine Award

About the award

The KAFP Foundation is proud to establish the Student Leader in Family Medicine Award, with the inaugural awards being made in 2021. This award is designed to honor third-year medical students from any of the three University of Kansas Medical Schools, with plans of going into family medicine. In its inaugural year, two award winners will be identified and presented with a $250 award.

Award Criteria

Third-year medical students at KUMC Wichita, Salina or Kansas City campus are eligible. o Special to 2021, fourth-year medical students from any campus are also eligible.

  • Applicant has plans of pursuing family medicine residency.
  • Application must be a KAFP member in good standing.


  • Complete applications are due to KAFP by Apr. 30, 2021.

  • Applicants will be notified of the results in May. Award checks will be mailed to the recipients by the end of May.

Award and Recognition

The recipient will be mailed their $250 award check in May after nominations have been reviewed and recipients selected. Recipients will then be recognized (in name and photo) at KAFP’s annual CME conference Fam Med Forward in June.
