The Academy meets this mission through:
High Quality Education
- KAFP provides excellent Continuing Medical Education (CME) at its meetings, conferences and virtual events.
- Additional CME opportunities are offered throughout the year like the Rural Health Equity Summit, ALSO training, POCUS training and the Resident & New Physician tracks during Fam Med Forward.
Outstanding Advocacy
- KAFP is the voice of family medicine in Topeka; advocating effectively for family physicians and their patients, with legislative priorities adopted by the Board of Directors.
- The Advocacy Committee stays ahead of legislative issues and works with Kansas family physicians to address them.
Beyond education and advocacy
Leadership in Public Health
- KAFP is a member of the Alliance for Healthy Kansas advisory council.
- KAFP partners with KDHE on the Kansas Immunization Program.
- KAFP is a charter member of the Immunize Kansas Coalition.
- KAFP works with lawmakers, University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine and community leaders to increase the number of students who select family medicine as their specialty of choice.

- Family Physicians: The Kansas Family Physician of the Year, Rising Star, Exemplary Teaching and Humanitarian awards recognize outstanding family doctors in Kansas.
- Residents & Students: The KAFP Foundation is committed to recognizing Kansas medical students and residents and provides awards designed specifically to recognize these audiences and shining stars in our state.
- KAFP shines a spotlight on the outstanding work of members through awards for practicing family physicians, residents and students.
