Learning objectives include:

  • Review recent recommendations from GINA and NAEPP.
  • Examine data on a rescue therapy treatment option in asthma.
  • Recognize tools to enhance shared decision-making conversations in asthma.

Speakers

Crystal Burkhardt, PharmD, MBA, BCGP, FCCP is a pharmacist with nearly 20 years of clinical and academic experience in major health centers in the Kansas City Metro in collaboration with interprofessional family medicine and internal medicine care teams. Since joining AstraZeneca as the Asthma Medical Science Liaison in June 2023, she has worked closely with health care professionals and researchers throughout Kansas and Oklahoma, at the intersection of science and patient care. Dr. Burkhardt holds her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University College of Pharmacy and completed a Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Monica Apollo is a board-certified physician assistant with 16 years of clinical experience in allergy and asthma, providing care at an asthma & allergy clinic in Kansas City. She joined AstraZeneca in May 2023, as a Medical Science Liaison on the Respiratory Team supporting the launch of a novel anti-inflammatory reliever and supporting respiratory biologics treatment for severe asthma. Monica works closely with healthcare professionals and researchers across Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri to advance knowledge of asthma, COPD, and emerging respiratory therapies. Monica earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pittsburg State University, her Physician Assistant degree from Wichita State University and is a Certified Asthma Educator. She is dedicated to furthering scientific collaboration and improving outcomes in respiratory medicine throughout the Midwest.
