Tessa Rohrberg, MD
I have experienced a lot of change lately. And if there is one thing I know to be true of change, it is that it does not always come easy. In fact, change seems to come when I least expect it and never at a convenient time. I have a saying on my bathroom wall that reads, “Wonderful things are on their way.” And during this season of change, these words are more reassuring to me than I ever noticed before. Perhaps the biggest change I have undergone lately was my job. Rural family medicine has always been a large part of who I am, and unfortunately, my private practice had to shut its doors last year. It took some time, but I realized that even though my position is different, my passion for serving my community and my patients is still the same. Now, I have a position in which I am fortunate to work with medical students and residents interested in family medicine. It is exciting to help them recognize their passion and find their fit in family medicine. The KAFP has also continued to be an integral part of my place in family medicine. Though the KAFP is experiencing a season of change, it continues to be my ‘family’ with values in line with my own. While serving as my district’s director, I have responded to members’ concerns and helped be their voice on the board. I am currently serving on a taskforce centered on the board’s restructuring. I am hopeful that I can be a bridge for my district’s members and help them see the wonderful things that can come of this change. I am hopeful the changes coming will help our members better serve their patients and communities. I would be honored to continue as part of the leadership team in this great organization and continue advocating for our members, our patients, and our communities. I know that wonderful things are on their way.
