Committees and Advisory Groups

Looking for a way to get more involved with your Academy? KAFP is pleased to invite members to volunteer to serve on one of our active committees and/or advisory groups. Through committee/advisory group involvement you can provide input on Academy activities and help advance the mission of the KAFP.

How to get involved

Contributing to the Academy through service on a committee or advisory group is easy and rewarding. Just:

• Review the committees and task forces description of their work below.
• Submit your volunteer application to be considered for an appointment.
• KAFP will be in touch regarding your committee appointment soon!

Academic Advisory Group (AAG)

The role of the Academic Advisory Group is to:

• Program and project research and development as delegated by the BOD.
• Can develop programs and/or projects that align with the adopted strategic plan for the BOD to consider for adoption, brought to the BOD via the Chair.
• Can submit feedback on Academy programming, projects or other endeavors that impact their academic entities to the BOD via the Chair.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to KAFP staff in regards to issues/topics related to academics.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to other committees in regards issues/topics related to academics.
• Not to serve as an individual representative of an academic institution, but rather the function of academics in relation to the work of the Academy.

Its membership consists of one representative from each residency program and family medicine department as well as preceptors and members with a strong affinity for academics. Each program/department identifies their representative to this committee. Representatives must be KAFP members in good standing.

 

New Physicians Advisory Group

The role of the New Physicians Advisory Group is to:

• Program/project development as delegated by the BOD.
• Can develop programs/projects that align with the adopted strategic plan for the BOD to consider for adoption, brought to the BOD via the Chair.
• Can submit feedback on Academy programming, projects, or other endeavors that impact their membership category to the BOD via the Chair.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to KAFP staff in regards to issues/topics related to new physicians.
• Serve as an advisory capacity to other committees in regards issues/topics related to new physicians.

Its membership consists of any KAFP member in good standing that is seven or fewer years from completing their family medicine residency.

 

Special Constituency/NCCL Advisory Group

The role of the Special Constituency/NCCL Advisory Group is to:

• Program/project development as delegated by the Board.
• Can develop programs/projects that align with the adopted strategic plan for the Board to consider for adoption.
• Can develop resolutions to take to NCCL (with Board approval), serves as KAFP’s NCCL delegates.
• Represents KAFP as delegates to the five constituencies at AAFP’s NCCL in the spring.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to KAFP staff in regards to issues/topics related to constituency groups.
• Serve as an advisory capacity to other committees in regards issues/topics related to constituency groups.

Its membership may identify with one of the AAFP NCCL constituencies, or be an ally of a special constituency. Volunteers must be KAFP members in good standing.

 

Resident and Student Advisory Group

The role of the Resident and Student Advisory Group is to:

• Advance program/project development as delegated by the BOD.
• Can develop programs/projects that align with the adopted strategic plan for the BOD to consider for adoption, brought to the BOD via the board representatives.
• Can submit feedback on Academy programming, projects, or other endeavors that impact residents and students to the BOD via the board representatives.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to KAFP staff in regards to issues/topics related to residents and students.
• Serve as an advisory capacity to other committees in regards issues/topics related to residents and students.

Its membership will consist of FMIG representatives from each Kansas campus, resident representatives from each Kansas program, and all other resident and student members interested in serving. Volunteers must be KAFP members in good standing.

 

Advocacy Committee (formerly the Governmental Affairs Committee)

The role of the Advocacy Committee is to:

• Identify KAFP’s Legislative Priorities, in consultation with lobbyist and staff.
• Plan Advocacy Day program, serve as moderators, attend event.
• Plan Advocacy Training program for members.
• All committee members are expected to volunteer at least one day as FDOD during the legislative session.
• Testimony (sub-group of committee)
  • Prepare written and oral testimony for KAFP to give.
  • Identify sub-group of committee that serve as testimony presenters.
• Policy Writing (sub-group of committee)
  • Research and draft policies that support KAFP Legislative Priorities when there is a need.
  • Partner with Kansas Legislators to identify supporters to work with and introduce the policy.
  • Champion KAFP drafted policy through the legislative process.

 

Education Committee

The role of the Education Committee is to:

• Serve as subject matter experts in terms of identifying physician education topics to host at regular scheduled events.
• Provide member perspective for planning regularly scheduled physician education activities.
• In conjunction with staff lead, set programming agenda for physician education activities.
• Can develop programs/projects that align with the adopted strategic plan for the BOD to consider for adoption, brought to the BOD via the President-elect.
• Speakers & Authors Bureau (sub group of committee)
  • Recruit potential speakers and authors for programming.
  • Review abstracts submitted, identify presentation opportunities.
  • Develop and manage a “call for proposals/abstracts” system

 

Special CME Work Group(s)

The role of the Special CME Work Group is to:

• Serve as subject matter experts in terms of identifying topics to showcase in alignment with objectives of the one-off conference.
• Provide member perspective for planning of one-off physician education activity(s).
• In conjunction with staff lead, set programming agenda for one-off physician education activities.
• Consult with the Speakers & Authors Bureau, if needed.
• Recruit potential speakers and authors for programming.
• Review abstracts submitted, identify presentation opportunities.

 

Membership Committee

The role of the Membership Committee is to:

• Program/project development as delegated by the BOD.
• Can develop programs/projects that align with the adopted strategic plan for the BOD to consider for adoption, brought to the BOD via the Secretary.
• Can submit feedback on Academy programming, projects, or other endeavors that impact membership to the BOD via the Secretary.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to KAFP staff in regards to issues/topics related to membership.
• Serve as an advisory capacity to other committees in regards issues/topics related to membership.
• Serve as ambassadors of the KAFP to recruit and retain members.
• Responsible for developing programs to increase member value.
• Develop member satisfaction survey, needs assessment, and other member feedback tools as needed.
• Responsible for welcoming new members through innovative initiatives.
• Explore opportunities for mentorship program.

 

Academy Awards Judges

The role of the Academy Awards Judges is to:

• Serves as the judging body for the award nominations received annually.
• Attend orientation to be eligible to judge nominations received that year.
• All judges discloses any COI’s they may have so that they are not reviewing nominations they have a direct conflict with.
• Blindly review and score nominations as assigned by the Chair.
• Reconvene after scoring is complete to review scores and discuss results.

 

Vaccination Advisory Committee

The role of the Vaccination Advisory Committee is to:

• Support the work of the Immunization Provider Enhancement grant KAFP has received from KDHE. This grant runs through June 30, 2024.
• Provide  your expertise to better serve your colleagues and our state in the effort to increase vaccination rates for all Kansans, serving as the advisory body to the grant project manager, and act as peer-to-peer mentors for fellow members.
• Identify solutions to struggles KAFP members report experiencing regarding KDHE vaccination programs and reviewing patient education handouts produced by KAFP.
