Kristina Chaffee, MD
Via Christi Family Medicine Residency, PGY1

Dr. Kristina Chaffee is from Washington State. She obtained her degree in Biology at Northwest University prior to starting Medical School at the University of Washington. She is now a resident at Via Christi Family Medicine Residency in Wichita, Kansas, a full-scope family medicine program. After residency, Dr. Chaffee plans to work internationally in family medicine and community health.

Danielle Corbett, MD
Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Danielle Corbett is from Belle Plaine, Kansas. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Newman University and a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Danielle now resides in Salina, Kansas and is a second-year resident at Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency receiving training in full-scope family medicine. She is planning on staying in Kansas after residency to practice family medicine in a rural setting. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two kids and husband and being outside. 

Morgan Gillam, MD
Via Christi Family Medicine Residency, PGY1

Dr. Morgan Gillam is from Olathe, Kansas. She attended The University of Kansas for undergraduate studies in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, and then attended The University of Kansas School of Medicine where she received her Doctorate in Medicine. Dr. Gillam now resides in Wichita, Kansas where she lives with her husband Zachary and dog Apollo. After residency, she plans to work in a rural underserved region of Kansas where she can fulfill her dream to be a rural full spectrum family physician in her favorite state! 

Lauren Haag, MD
Wesley Family Medicine Residency, PGY3

Dr. Lauren Haag is from Andover, Kansas. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and Psychology of Neuroscience and Human Development at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. She continued her medical training at the University of Kansas School of Medicine at both the Kansas City and Wichita campuses. Following her medical degree, she remained in Wichita, KS where she obtained her Masters in Population Health at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. During her master’s degree, she worked in the research department investigating improvement of health for underserved populations particularly for prenatal care. She continues to reside in Wichita, Kansas to receive residency training in full-scope family medicine. She has a passion for continuity care, emergency medicine, and international medicine and hopes to incorporate all three components into her future practice. 

Jing Herwig, MD
Wesley Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Jing Herwig is from Edmond, Oklahoma. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology from

University of Central Oklahoma and a medical degree from University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. Jing left Oklahoma to receive residency training in full-scope family medicine and obstetrics. She currently lives in Wichita, KS and is planning to stay in Wichita after she graduates residency. She has a strong passion for broad-spectrum practice as well as patient-centered evidence-based care.

R. Aurelia Latimer, University of Kansas Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Riel Aurelia Latimer (They/She) is from Kansas City and Overland Park, Kansas. Dr. Latimer obtained a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a biological focus, a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a minor in Psychology from the University of Kansas, and a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. They currently live in Kansas City, KS with their partner and is a 2nd year FM resident at KU. She hopes to practice general primary care after graduation from residency with an urban population with a significant Spanish Speaking populace. She has a strong passion for mental health care, gender-affirming care, preventive care, and working with urban underserved populations, especially for linguistically marginalized groups.

Jeremy Lickteig, MD
Via Christi Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Jeremy Lickteig hails from Wichita, Kansas. He attended Washburn University, where he played basketball and studied biology. He attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita and is a chief resident at Ascension Via Christi Family Medicine. Upon graduation, he will work in an inpatient, outpatient, and ER based practice in Kingman, KS. 

Jennifer Mettling, MD
Via Christi Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Jennifer Mettling is from Ulysses, KS. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Sterling College and her medical degree from KU School of Medicine. Currently she is training in full-scope family medicine and obstetrics at Via Christi Family Medicine Program here in Wichita. She especially loves women’s health and looks forward to returning to rural Kansas upon residency graduation. She lives with her husband Austin and son Elliot, and you can usually find them doing something outdoors or trying out a new ice cream flavor. 

Will Miller, MD
Via Christi Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Will Miller grew up in Caliente, Nevada. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. His medical degree was obtained at the University of Nevada–Reno School of Medicine. He is currently completing his residency in Family Medicine at Ascension Via Christi in Wichita, KS. After graduation, he hopes to serve the rural underserved of America and practice full-spectrum family medicine which will ideally include obstetric, emergency, inpatient and outpatient care. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.

Sara Peterson, DO, MBA
University of Kansas Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Sara Peterson is originally from the Central Valley of California where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. Thereafter, she attended Georgetown University where she earned a master’s degree in Physiology & Biophysics. Finally, she moved to the Kansas City area almost 6 years ago to attend medical school at Kansas City University where she graduated from a dual-degree program earning her DO and MBA in Healthcare Leadership simultaneously. She now resides in Westwood, Kansas, with her fiancé and has goals to practice in the state of Kansas long-term. Her primary interests are academic medicine and HIV-focused care, and she hopes to maintain aspects of both in her post-residency practice. 

Spencer Shearer, MD
Wesley Family Medicine Residency, PGY2

Dr. Spencer Shearer grew up in Lee’s Summit, Missouri just outside of Kansas City. He graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. His medical degree was obtained at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He is currently completing his residency in Family Medicine at Wesley in Wichita, KS. After graduation, he hopes to serve the rural underserved of the Midwest and practice full-spectrum family medicine including include obstetric, emergency, and outpatient care. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and two cats.

Elizabeth Smith, MD
Via Christi Family Medicine Residency, PGY1

Dr. Elizabeth Smith is from Westchester, New York. She completed her undergraduate years at Lee University where she majored in Biology. She returned to New York to attend medical school at New York Medical College before moving to Wichita, Kansas to pursue full-spectrum Family Medicine training at Via Christi Family Medicine. She has a strong passion for global health and plans to practice internationally after completing residency. 

Hannah Swagerty, MD
University of Kansas Family Medicine Residency, PGY3

Dr. Hannah Swagerty (she/her) is from Mission, KS. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology with a minor in sociology from the University of Kansas and a medical degree from University of Kansas School of Medicine. She currently lives in Shawnee, KS and is a 3rd year FM resident at KU. She is planning to practice general primary care next year in Leavenworth Kansas. She has a strong passion for the underserved, women’s health, gender affirming care, mental health, preventive care, and addiction medicine.
