KUMC

KU School of Medicine is seeking excellent family doctors to serve as volunteer faculty to third-year family medicine clerkship students from the Kansas City campus. Students rotate in a 2-week block.

  • Did you know that medical students highly value mentorship from practicing physicians?
  • Did you know that clerkship students rate having a one-on-one teaching relationship with a family doctor as their most desired and most valued experience over the clerkship?

Serving as volunteer faculty has perks!

  • Your peers enjoy serving as volunteer faculty! They say that students energize them and that the students teach them almost as much as they teach the students.
  • Patients enjoy students! They report that having a student in the office enhances their experience.
  • You can claim up to 20 CME hours per year for teaching medical students.
  • CMS allows you to attest student notes in lieu of writing duplicate notes of your own!
  • KU will provide you with access to resources, including UpToDate and databases at KUMC Dykes’ Library.

Interested? Contact Kristen Estrada, program manager for the Undergraduate Medical Education Division, Family Medicine Department, KU School of Medicine at KESTRADA@kumc.edu.

The American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) announces a newly designed website (www.theabfm.org).

The much-improved streamlined navigation was a central focus of the website redesign effort, providing a user experience that allows access to consistent and accurate information quickly and easily. Reducing the density of content and improving the clarity of explanations about the certification process were also major goals in this effort.

The website will feature optimized responsive functionality on mobile devices which will allow users to access the ABFM website while on the go, in the office, or at home. A new search feature is also one of many improvements that will provide users the ability to quickly search the website for key information of interest. Finally, this site offers new features not previously seen on ABFM’s website, including a Get Involved with the ABFM section.

KDHE

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Healthcare-Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program, working with the Kansas Quality Improvement Partnership (KQIP), is challenging Kansas healthcare providers to commit to antimicrobial stewardship by taking the #OneHealthKS pledge. Learn more and take the pledge #OneHealthKS.

One of the purposes of KQIP, a group of leading Kansas health care organizations, is to coordinate, support and simplify when possible, patient safety and quality improvement activities for health care providers across Kansas. KQIP has established a goal that all Kansas healthcare settings and providers, animal and human, will actively promote the appropriate use of antibiotics through their antibiotic/antimicrobial stewardship programs. KQIP has committed to lead a statewide effort to elevate widespread appropriate use of antibiotics across care settings in Kansas.  KQIP further commits to support healthcare organizations to develop and enhance antibiotic stewardship programs through the implementation of the CDC Core Elements for Antibiotic Stewardship:

  • Designate clinical leadership
  • Allocate necessary resources
  • Educate consumers
  • Develop local expertise
