Sheryl Beard, MD, FAAFP, CMO obtained her Medical Doctorate and her Family Medicine Residency certification from the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. She spent a short time in the United States Air Force, before becoming teaching faculty at the Ascension Via Christi family medicine residency program. During her time as residency faculty, Dr. Beard was privileged to serve in medical staff leadership at Ascension Via Christi hospitals, including department chairperson, medical staff president and peer review chairperson. Since 2021, Dr Beard has been serving as the Chief Medical Officer for Ascension Via Christi Hospitals Kansas.

Lauren Clifford, PT, DPT, completed her undergraduate degree at Pittsburg State University and then continued her education at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She currently practices at SERC Physical Therapy in Olathe, KS where she treats a range of orthopedic conditions, but is particularly passionate about women’s and men’s pelvic health. She has completed pelvic health continuing education from IAMT, APTA, and is pursuing her Certified Pelvic Health Clinician Certification (CPHC).

Warren A. Jones, MD, DHL(Hon), FAAFP, Family Physician and Adolescent Medicine Specialist. He graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA, the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, and retired as a Captain, U.S. Navy Medical Corps with over 28 year of service. He served as the 54th President of the AAFP from 2001 – 2002 and is currently the Chief Health Officer for the Jones Group of Mississippi. He was an Associate Vice Chancellor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and a Professor Emeritus after having been a Distinguished Professor of Health Policy, Professor of Family Medicine and a Professor of Anesthesiology Research, and the Founding Executive Director of the Mississippi Minority Health Research Institute.

He ran the Mississippi Medicaid Program and was responsible for providing access to care for over 760,000 indigent Mississippians. He served a Medical Director and Medicare/Medicaid Subject Matter Expert at Provider Resources, Inc. He has previously served as the NIH Endowed Chair in Health Disparities Research at Dillard University and the Chief Health Officer at Hampton University where he was the Founding Director of the Center for Caribbean Health Research and Principal Investigator for the Minority Men’s Health Initiative within the Hampton University Regional Transdisciplinary Collaborative Center. He served as a Trustee at his alma mater, Dillard University. He is Chair Emeritus in the Family Medicine Section of the National Medical Association and is Board President for the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi. He was selected as the Outstanding Black Educator by Mississippi’s Board of Higher Education. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by the Historic Tougaloo College, recently inducted into the National Historically Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in Medicine and awarded the Distinguished Leader in Science and Medicine by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at its Centennial Ceremonies.

Samrah Mansoor, MD, FAAFP, FCUCM

Samrah Mansoor, MD, FAAFP, FCUCM is a board-certified family physician, urgent care physician, and healthcare entrepreneur based in Wichita, Kansas. She serves as the Medical Director of AFC Urgent Care Wichita, where she leads clinical operations focused on patient-centered care across urgent care, primary care, and occupational medicine. Dr. Mansoor is actively involved in advancing family and urgent care medicine through leadership, education, and quality improvement initiatives. She serves on the Clinical Response Committee of the Urgent Care Association, contributing to national initiatives on provider productivity, antibiotic stewardship, and clinical best practices. In recognition of her leadership and contributions to urgent care medicine, Dr. Mansoor was honored with the Physician of the Year Award at the national conference of the American Family Care in 2025. She was also selected to serve on the Commission on Continuing Professional Development for the American Academy of Family Physicians (2025–2027), where she contributes to national continuing medical education initiatives. Dr. Mansoor is passionate about physician education, quality improvement, and building innovative healthcare models that expand access to care. Prior to transitioning into urgent care medicine, Dr. Mansoor worked for nearly a decade as a hospitalist, where she was extensively involved in inpatient care and medical optimization of patients prior to surgical procedures. Her experience performing medical clearances and managing complex hospitalized patients provided a strong clinical foundation for evaluating perioperative risk and coordinating safe surgical care.

Victoria Poplin, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. She completed her undergraduate and medical school studies at the University of Missouri Kansas City. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at University of Kansas Medical Center. Her interests include general infectious diseases, HIV, fungal diagnostics, antimicrobial stewardship and medical education.

Dereck Totten, MD, MPH, FAAFP, CMO

Dereck Totten, MD, MPH, FAAFP, is the CMO of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. He maintains his clinical practice in Colby, where he practices full scope family medicine with obstetrics. Dr. Totten completed his medical and public health training at the University of Kansas.
