The Kansas Academy of Family Physicians (KAFP) is launching an online Membership Satisfaction Survey on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. We urge all active, resident, student and life members to complete the survey. Many thanks to the Membership Committee who have worked on the survey for the past two months developing, planning and implementing it for the membership. KAFP launches a satisfaction survey about every three years. It is an important tool to gauge your membership satisfaction and learn more about your needs. Registration is now open for 2019 Advocacy Day. Get ready to be energized, informed and prepared about Kansas issues in the 2019 Legislative Session. The Advocacy Day schedule is available at 2019 Advocacy Day! The speakers include Mike Munger, MD, Dodie Wellshear, Rachelle Colombo, Stephanie Sharp, Tracy Russell and legislative leaders.  Following a day of learning about the issues and how to engage with legislators, you are invited to the Dillon House for a reception to mingle with legislators. This is our biggest legislative event of the year – don’t miss it!

The Kansas Academy of Family Physicians is joining physicians across the U.S. in celebrating the annual Great American Smoke Out on Thursday, November 15. Kansas has seen a decrease in the number of residents using tobacco, yet thousands still struggle with their tobacco addiction. It often takes 7 to 9 quit attempts before successfully overcoming tobacco. Patients indicate that a healthcare provider’s advice to quit is a strong motivator in taking the first step. As a family physician, you are a motivator!

Are you interested in immunizations and improving your practice’s rate? The Kansas Family Medicine Pneumococcal Immunization Office Champions (KFMPIOC) program is a QI Initiative designed to improve the rate of pneumococcal immunizations for the Medicare population. KFMPIOC will utilize an office-based champion model framework based upon ACIP recommendations and NVAC Standards for Adult Immunization Practices. Practices selected to participate will have expert technical assistance to complete the initiative and will earn up to $4,900 in stipends for participation and completion. Target Audience:
Kansas Family Physicians and immunization staff interested in participating in a QI initiative to increase pneumococcal immunization rates in seniors.

Objectives:
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will have a greater awareness of:

  1. How this program incorporates the Office Champion model to improve pneumococcal immunization rates in seniors
  2. How practices will perform PDSA cycles and make systems changes to improve pneumococcal immunization rates in seniors
  3. How to apply for the KFMPIOC program

The KAFP and the KAFP-Foundation boards are jointly seeking an executive vice president to help execute their vision for championing the cause of family physicians and their patients in the state of Kansas.
