We are prepared to “Connect. Interact. Learn.” this week at the Wichita Marriott! More than 200 attendees will join us for our 71st Annual Meeting. Our week begins with the pre-conference session “MAT Waiver Training” on Wednesday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m. Annual Meeting registration opens at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6. The conference begins at 11:00 a.m. If you are not registered yet, we will be accepting walk-in registrations. To expedite the process, complete the registration form and bring it with you.

We encourage registrants to have fun and participate in social media by following, liking, sharing, commenting, and posting.  If you are unable to join us, you can still follow and be engaged through our story.

Eight KAFP members attended AAFP’s Family Medicine Advocacy Summit (FMAS) last week. They learned about the issues on Monday, May 20 and met with each of the six members of the Kansas Congressional Delegation and/or staff on Tuesday, May 21.  View background information on the requests.  Kansas attendees:

Looking for a way to get more involved with your Academy?  KAFP is pleased to invite members to volunteer to serve on one of our six committees; Communications, Governmental Advocacy, Finance & Insurance, Membership & Member Services, Practice Enhancement, and Professional Development.  Through committee involvement you can provide input on Academy activities and help advance the mission of the KAFP.

  1. Review the committees and a short description of their work.
  2. Submit your committee application by July 1, 2019. Please note we request two selections, but you are only appointed to one committee.
  3. KAFP will be in touch with you regarding your committee appointment in July.

Committee Recommendations to be Announced at Member Meeting

The Reference Committee hearing met on May 16. Thank you to the authors, committee members and interested KAFP members who participated in the hearing. Their committee recommendations are available on the website at 2019 Conference Committee Report. Committee recommendations will be announced at the Member Meeting on Friday, June 7 during the KAFP Annual Meeting at the Wichita Marriott.  The board will discuss and take action at its board meeting on Saturday, June 8. Four new resolutions were submitted for action this year on topics including Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) and the oath for new fellows. The Board of Directors made recommendations on these resolutions as well as the sunset resolutions five years ago to decide whether to retain, rewrite or sunset each of them.

Kansas Academy of Family Physicians welcomes Tarah Remington Brown of Kansas City, Missouri as the incoming Executive Vice President. Hired by the KAFP Board of Directors, Ms. Remington Brown joined the KAFP team May 13.  She transitions into the role of KAFP’s Executive Vice President officially on September 1, 2019.  She replaces Carolyn Gaughan, CAE, who is retiring as Executive Vice President on August 31, 2019. AAFP benchmark numbers have increased by 200 members overall. Our Kansas chapter has grown as well!  We have 1,820 members, an increase of 60.  Thank YOU for your membership.
